Reno Really Is A Small Town!

As many, or not so many, know that the motto of Reno is “The Biggest Little City in the World.”  We even have two archways downtown displaying it.
The Newer Arch
The Older Arch

And it rings true, because I am always discovering new and different ways that I know someone from years past.  It’s usually in the most random places.
Today, I was substituting at my Alma Mater: Galena High School.  I’ve been a substitute for over a year and this was the first chance to come back.  I took it with pleasure, even though my degree is in Early Childhood Education.  Luckily, the high school students aren’t too bad.  This particular class was Business and all of the students are working on building a webpage.  In these kinds of classes I get to just sit back and relax while the students work.  I let them know that if they had questions I would do my best to help, but that most likely I wouldn’t really know anything.  It mostly becomes facilitating help from other students.
As I got more comfortable with the class and began talking with some of the students, I saw a young girl with a homemade volleyball shirt.  It said the year 2014 on it so I commented on it and asked if that was her graduating year.   It came up that I went to this school.  I know that there is a student here who I used to babysit and I was asking if she knew him.  Turns out she knows him and his little brother, who chose to go to a different high school, because she lived in the same neighborhood as him.  Funny story: so did I.
Turns out the whole time that this high school girl is sitting right in front of me, she was none other than the little girl I also used to babysit years ago.  It was so nice to reconnect with her and ask about her family.  It also turns out that her brother is a sophomore at the University of Nevada and is also a member of a fraternity.  It’s so funny that I would have just missed out on seeing him and highly likely that some of my younger sorority sisters know who he is.
Now if that isn’t a clear representation of Reno being the Biggest Little City in the World, I’m not quite sure what is then.
